Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a language used on mechanical engineering drawings composed of symbols that are used to efficiently and accurately communicate geometry requirements for associated features on components and assemblies. GD&T is, and has been, successfully used for many years in the automotive, aerospace, electronic and the commercial design and manufacturing industries. Success oriented industries and organizations which require accurate and common lines of communications between engineering, design, manufacturing and quality should consider geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) as their mechanical drawing standard.
Jigs and Fixtures are production devices that generally workholders with or without tool guiding or setting arrangement. Jigs are provided with tool guiding elements such as drill bushes. Fixtures hold the workpiece securely in the correct position with respect to the machine/ cutter during operation. Gauge is the thickness, size or capacity of something, especially as a standard measure.
This program teaches the participants on how to define and conceive the purpose of using jigs & fixtures. By end of the session, participants will be able to state the design considerations for jigs & fixtures. Identify the methods of locating, supporting, clamping of jobs in jigs & fixtures and guidance of cutting tools in jigs and fixtures to facilitate machining.
